A virtual studio selfie taken on our first field trip in the metaverse.

In Phase 1 of Firefly Futures, we were tasked with conceptualizing possible workflows that we would later use as a blueprint for creating interactive experiences. The diagrams show two possible workflows that I established. I used a Rhino to Unreal Engine workflow because I was interested in the potential of game engines for architectural visualization and representation.
These are two concept art images created in the early phase of the Studio that outlined my vision for the kind of experience/game I wanted to create. The first concept was a portal adventure game in which the player would advance through levels using portals as a means of travel. The second concept, the one I would ultimately use for my game, was a time travel adventure experience in which the player would traverse time and experience Chicago's landscape in the past, present, and future. I felt that time travel would lend itself better to tell a more compelling narrative about the necessity of ecology in city planning over a longer period of time.
The images were both created using a combination of Rhino 3d, Twinmotion, and Photoshop.
Next, I created a rough draft for the narrative portion of the project. Heavily inspired by the work of Neal Stephenson, Author of Snow Crash and subsequently the creator of the term "Meta-verse". I created a compelling narrative to drive the gameplay of my virtual reality experience.
